Hawaii Wedding

We are excited to share our bohemian inspired style shoot, which we put together with DISfunkshion magazine and was photographed by the amazing Christina Heaston, a member of our MWH Vendor Collective. This wild and sweet picnic set for two was shot on the North Shore of Oahu. The North Shore is a dream location for any type of event, especially for our boho bride.

Disfunkshion put together this wild style for our bride. To glam up the simple white dress, we used lots of chunky accessories. The layers of rings, bracelets, belts, and necklaces brought her look from simple to bridal worthy. Also instead of the traditional veil, we created our own with tulle.

When creating the picnic setting, we used items that were already available to us. This is a great tip for any bride. A bride can incorporate her personality on their wedding day by using items she can find around her house. As table tops, we used trunks. To have our trunks stand out, we wrapped them with yarn. This was also a great way to tie in the colors of the of the decor. The Native Navajo blankets and pillows created great accent colors.

Another inspiration for us in this style shoot were dreamcatchers. To hang up our dreamcatchers outside we have to get creative.  We used an empty picture frame to display them at the picnic. To add another layer to the design we had lanterns, candle sticks, studded leather boxes.

Don’t be afraid to use color along with your wedding dress and to search vintage stores or department stores to find a unique look for your wedding day. Don’t underestimate the power of accessories and don’t be afraid to bring out your personal style on your wedding day and have fun!

Groom Set

This is the perfect pre-wedding planning kit that any bride could give to her fiance. This is a great way for the groom to get organized in style. One great part of this groom set is the checklist of responsibilities. This way the groom will be able to write out exactly what he needs to do before the big day.

The groom can even write out his speech on the Groom Speech cards, which are included in this kit. This kit also has a do not disturb sign, stationary to write a note to the bride before the ceremony, and thank you cards. To get this free, printable kit check out Wedding Friends for more information.

Guest Blogger: Passion Roots Gives Tips for Picking Flowers

Wedding Flowers

There are tons of wedding resources out there and Pinterest is one very popular site for brides planning their weddings.  They often come to us with extravagant designs, but minus the Kardashian wedding budget. So…one of the most frequently asked questions is “how can I get the look for less?”

Here are a few tips:

Peonies are the #1 most requested wedding flower.  They are a more expensive flower and have a limited season (mostly available during the early summer).  One alternative is the garden rose – a hybrid rose, with a large, open bloom and many petals.

Phalaenopsis orchids are another frequently requested flower.  Just like peonies they too have a limited season and tend to be more expensive.  We often get asked to create an all-phalaenopsis orchid cascade bouquet.  For this bride who wanted a more budget friendly bouquet, we actually cut the orchid stems in half – the cascade wasn’t as long, but she was still able to get the look she wanted.

Tall centerpiece arrangements are also very popular, but again can be more expensive.  To cut on costs we suggest mixing it up with tall and low centerpiece.  It can also give the room more dimension.

Or if you want all tall pieces, consider using one flower as a base, and accent with others.  In this case we used hydrangea as a base – they are great because they are big lush flowers.  We accented with feathers, dusty miller and (in the second photo) hanging amaranthus.  Just as you save money when you buy groceries in bulk at Costco or Sam’s, florists also save by buying flowers in bulk.  And on the other hand, the more variety you have, the greater the cost may be.

You can also incorporate DIY projects into your wedding.  For this particular wedding, the large tree served as the focal point for their ceremony, but they wanted to “dress it up” a bit.  We asked the client to create large tissue paper flowers in their color scheme and we placed them in a eucalyptus evergreen garland, accented with real flowers, that was wrapped around the tree.

Another way to get more bang for your buck is to reuse items from your ceremony in your reception.  Aisle markers can be used on cocktail tables, placed on the cake table, or clustered together for the head table.  A ceremony frame, like this one can be rolled into the reception room and serve as a nice backdrop behind the head table.

Just remember that when meeting with your florist, be open to alternatives. Flowers are not always in season, colors and tones can vary from season to season depending on the weather and other factors.  While websites can provide you with a lot of information, your florist knows what is available locally so use them for their expertise.  And be sure to bring inspiration photos and a budget – these are two of the most helpful items to us when helping you plan your wedding.  Happy planning!

Still trying to figure out how you want to wear your hair on your wedding day?  The photo’s above, taken by Mirelle Carmichael Photography, are great wedding hair inspiration. The hair accessories come from the company, Lo Boheme. Each accessory that Lo Boheme makes is hand made. They cite inspiration from French Bohemianism in the early 1900′s, the Art Nouveau Movement, and the glamour of old Hollywood.

The company was started when Lauren (Lo) Christensen had the idea to make personal gifts for her bridemaids. For her own wedding, Lauren made head pieces for each bridesmaid. Each head piece was made with vintage velvet flowers that she found while traveling through France and Germany. She made sure to add many, small personal touches on her wedding day. After hearing all of the positive feed back, Lauren created Lo Boheme.

By choosing to use a hair accessory on your wedding day, you can enhance the look you are going for. Considering being a boho bride on your wedding day? Some of these hair accessories would be perfect. Left us know which ones are your favorites in the comment section below!

Sammy - I bought my birdcage veil and flower fascinator from Lo Boheme for my wedding this March 17th! So glad you guys are featuring her accessories. I was a bit nervous to order my veil online but her assistant emailed me back quickly to answer all my questions for size of the flower to what color to match my dress, etc. The end result was perfection!
