Guest Post: Autumn in Hawaii

We are very pleased to welcome Gaelan of Uschi & Kay to Modern Weddings Hawaii to tell us about using autumn details at your Hawaii wedding!

“As the summer begins to wind down here, my mind starts to wander to fall and all the gorgeous rustic chic weddings it will bring. Fall is my absolute favorite season and with its cool, crisp air, changing colors, and poetic nature, it’s an extremely popular season for weddings here in Canada. Even though you may not get that same cool, crisp fall air in Hawaii, it doesn’t mean you can’t recreate a beautiful rustic autumnal wedding in your own tropical paradise. Here are some of my favorite ways to create that cozy fall feeling:

Cotton, Wood, and Twine

Earthy elements like cotton, wood, and twine are excellent ways to bring instant rustic charm to any wedding. We used cotton to create these beautiful simple boutonnieres for a styled farm wedding photo shoot, but it can also be used to make a wedding bouquet, garlands, centerpieces, or even cake toppers.

Although technically a spring wedding, Chris and Krista’s pretty prairie wedding incorporated hanging twig garlands and prairie grass in the flowers arrangements for a distinctly fall feel.

Dark Colors

Summer weddings are all about light and bright colors, but fall is the perfect time to go a little deeper and a little darker, or in the case of Kam and Jara’s wedding, a lot deeper and a lot darker. Red and black can be a difficult color scheme to pull off, but done right and in the perfect cozy venue, it can be downright dreamy. Rich wood and leather accents also work especially well for fall weddings.

Warm materials and details

Adding warm materials like wool and flannel are another great way to give a cozy, autumnal feel to your wedding. Racheal and Scott incorporated wool throughout their wedding, on their tables and their guest favors. And of course, soft warm lighting (think lots and lots of candles) is the easiest way to add an intimate ambience to any affair.
